Berkay Olgun, born in Istanbul in 1998, is a versatile musician known for his exquisite viola performances and deep musical insight. His journey into the world of music began at the age of eight when he started playing the violin. This early passion led him to enroll at the Mimar Sinan Istanbul Conservatory, where he laid the foundation for his musical career.
At the age of twelve, Berkay earned a coveted spot at the Istanbul State Conservatory, marking a pivotal moment in his musical development. However, it was at fifteen that he made a significant decision to transition to the viola, captivated by its rich tones and distinctive character.
Berkay’s pursuit of excellence took him to the HfMT Hamburg, where he studied under the guidance of Prof. Anna Kreetta Gribajcevic, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with distinction. He furthered his musical horizons through an enriching Erasmus program at the University Mozarteum Salzburg, studying with Prof. William Coleman.
Throughout his academic journey, Berkay had the privilege of learning from esteemed musicians like Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Paul Neubauer, Carol Rodland, Amihai Grosz, Hartmut Rohde, Diemut Poppen, Jeniffer Stumm, Eivind Ringstad, Tanja Becker-Bender in prestigious masterclasses.
As a versatile musician, Berkay has excelled in both orchestral and chamber music settings. He has served as a section leader and performed at renowned venues such as the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Laeizshalle Hamburg, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Die Glocke Bremen, Shenzhen Concert Hall. His musicality is celebrated for its beautiful and effortless sound, along with his natural stage presence.
Berkay’s artistic journey has been supported by prestigious grants, including the Borusan Stiftung Music Scholarship, and he is affiliated with organizations such as Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Hamburg and Musethica Deutschland.
